The new Oceanographic Vessel (B / O) Sarmiento de Gamboa, launched on January 30, 2006 in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Sofia, is considered of great scientific facility and incorporates the latest technology both in terms of system navigation (eg dynamic positioning) and its scientific equipment, besides being the first Spanish oceanographic ship that can work with ROV's (Remote Operated Vehicle) to great depths and AUV's (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle). Will be used primarily to do research and science in the Atlantic Ocean, so that its base of operations is a port of Galicia.
